How to choose the right carpet size

Rugs and carpets shouldn’t be too small, or they will get lost in your room. Furthermore, it should not be so large as to overwhelm the room.

Carpets should, ideally, define the area where they are used.

  • You can, for example, place your furniture on the carpet’s borders in such a way that at least two of its front legs are beneath it if it’s being used in a seating area.
  • In a living room or family room with two seating areas, you may want to use multiple rugs to separate and segregate the spaces.
  • Under the dining table, the carpet should be large enough to cover the space when the chairs are pushed out. Ideally, the carpet should extend two feet beyond the table’s perimeter.
  • At least half of the rug should cover the bed in the bedroom. The foot of the bed can be covered with a long runner in a smaller bedroom.

Carpets for the living room

It’s common for your living room to be the most frequently used room in your home. At the end of the day, you catch up with your spouse and kids, entertain friends, and get together with family. Choose a carpet that is sturdy, durable, and looks good too. Choose darker shades that won’t get soiled and will withstand rough use. Coordinate the carpet with your decor and color scheme.

A Persian carpet will add an air of elegance to a living room that is only used for entertaining.

Carpets for Dining Rooms

The carpet in the dining room should be able to withstand spills of food since it will be used exclusively for meals. If you prefer lighter colours, choose ones that do not stain. Material such as nylon, polypropylene, and polyester that can be easily washed and is relatively affordable is stain-resistant nylon, polypropylene, and polyester.

Hallway carpets

You get your first impression of your home from your foyer or hallway. Placed in the middle of hallways, small runners in thick wool or nylon with unusual motifs are an excellent style statement. Due to the heavy foot traffic, sturdier materials are recommended for usage.

Carpeting for stairs and landings

If you snag your foot on a carpet, you could fall. Therefore, carpets should not be used on staircases or landings. You should choose a carpet that does not slip on a staircase or landing area if you must put one there, or you may find yourself falling down the stairs! A stair runner made of wool or jute with patterns is a wise choice. A nailed down or glued down carpet should not move. If you wish to know more, you can click here.
